"The centrepiece to the Reredos of Holy Trinity Church Greenfield is a large oil on canvas painting by a local female artist from the turn of the last century. In 2009 the church received a major reordering. The painting had fallen into a state of disrepair, the canvas torn in several places and sometime in the distant past a very poor attempt had been made at over-painting and retouching.
Gerry Tudhope was commissioned to bring back the piece to its original intention and purpose as a focal point for the congregation during our services.
It's true to say that the finished work far exceeded our expectations this attention to detail along with his willingness to keep us informed of progress, along with his fair and competitive pricing made him a pleasure to work with.
The restored painting now stands central as an important part of the restoration of this church for its community."
The Venerable John Lomas, Archdeacon of St Asaph
"I was very satisfied by the work of preservation and restoration carried out on some of the diocese’s artistic patrimony by Mr Tudhope. The work was accomplished promptly and the result is very fine."
The Very Reverend Archbishop Cushley, Edinburgh Diocese.
"Gerry recently carried out work on two oil paintings for me. I am very pleased with the result which was excellent. He is totally professional and I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending him."
Bishop Tom Williams, Liverpool Diocese
"Gerry came to St. Mary’s Church some twelve months ago. He gave me a history of his work as an Art Conservator and Restorer. He commented that the Stations of the Cross needed a lot of work on them to be restorer to their full glory. Have arranged the costing Gerry worked on the Station. The transformation was extraordinary and unbelievable. The parishioners were amazed and delighted.
I then asked him to restore the Sacred Heart Chapel again his work was excellent. I also commissioned him to work on the reredos of the church. This is a very large reredos which required scaffolding. Gerry completed this huge task in five weeks. His work has transformed the church building and it really looks beautiful. More satisfying the parishioners are very happy with the results and are extremely pleased with all that has been done to beautify the church. In short they are very proud of their church.
Thank you Gerry for your wonderful work at St. Mary’s Cardiff. I have no hesitation in recommending you as an artist and restorer."
Monsignor John Maguire, St Mary of the Angels Cardiff
